DESCRIPTION:Prof. David Spergel\, Princeton University\, President of the
  Simons Foundation    David Spergel is president of the Simons Foundati
 on. He is the Charles Young Professor of Astronomy Emeritus at Princeton U
 niversity and was the founding director of the Center of Computational Ast
 rophysics at the Flatiron Institute in New York. Spergel received his unde
 rgraduate degree from Princeton in 1982. After a year of study at Oxford U
 niversity\, he received his Ph.D. from Harvard in 1985. After two years as
  a member at the Institute for Advanced Study\, he joined the Princeton as
 trophysics faculty in 1987\, where he was also associate faculty in the De
 partments of Physics and Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. In 2021\, h
 e assumed leadership of the Simons Foundation. Spergel is the author of ov
 er 400 papers.  He is known for his contributions to understanding the co
 smic microwave background\, the left-over heat from the Big Bang.  He has
  received numerous prizes for his work on cosmology including the MacArthu
 r Fellowship\, the Shaw Prize and the Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Ph
 ysics.  \nThe Atacama Cosmology Telescope has recently reported the most 
 accurate measurements of temperature and polarization of the cosmic microw
 ave background.  I will highlight these results and their implications fo
 r our understanding of cosmology.  The new measurements constrain the num
 ber and mass of neutrinos\, the presence of new light particles\, the prop
 erties of dark matter and dark energy\, and the physics of inflation.\nIma
