DESCRIPTION:Professor Nikita Kavokine Quantum Plumbing Lab (LNQ)\nIn this 
 lecture\, I will explain why nanoscale plumbers need quantum tools. My lab
  works in the field of nanofluidics – we study liquids flowing through c
 hannels so tiny that fluid and electron dynamics become intertwined. I wil
 l explain how we leverage quantum theory to illuminate the consequences of
  this coupling: ionic memory\, quantum friction\, flow tunneling… and di
 scuss some of the experiments we are building to probe these effects. I wi
 ll argue that there are very practical consequences to nanofluidics being 
 the meeting point of the classical and quantum worlds.\n\nComplimentary pa

 ikita joined EPFL as a Tenure Track Assistant Professor in October 2024. H
 e graduated from Ecole Normale Supérieure (ENS\, Paris) in 2017 with a ba
 chelor’s degree in chemistry and a master’s degree in theoretical phys
 ics. He then completed a PhD at ENS\, in the group of Prof. Lydéric Bocqu
 et\, where he did both theoretical and experimental work on many-body effe
 cts in nanoscale fluid transport\, graduating in 2021. Nikita then spent a
  year as a Research Fellow in the Flatiron Institute’s Center for Comput
 ational Quantum Physics\, working with Prof. Antoine Georges on numerical 
 approaches to disordered quantum systems. In 2022\, he joined the Departme
 nt of Molecular Spectroscopy at the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Resea
 rch in Mainz\, where he was a Group Leader until his appointment at EPFL.\
