DESCRIPTION:Véronique CHACHAY\nAccredited Practising Dietitian\, MSc Nutr
ition and Dietetics\, PhD candidate\nThe University of Queensland Diamanti
na Institute -Metabolic medicine group\nResearch wing\, Princess Alexandra
  Hospital\, Ipswich Road\nBrisbane\, Qld 4102\, Australia\nWe investigated
the efficacy of nutraceutical resveratrol on hepatic and cardiometabolic
dysregulation in 20 overweight/obese men with non-alcoholic fatty liver di
 sease (NAFLD)\, randomized to either 3000mg resveratrol (1500mg b.d.) or p
lacebo daily for 8 weeks.\nPrimary outcome: Peripheral insulin resistance\
 , (euglycemic-hyperinsulinemic clamp).\nSecondary outcomes: Hepatic trigly
cerides content and abdominal adipose tissue topography (magnetic resonanc
e spectroscopy and imaging)\; plasma adiponectin (total and high molecular
 -weight)\; oxidative-stress and antioxidant capacity (isoprostanes\, TAC\,
  GPX\, FRAP\, SOD)\; inflammatory and liver biochemistry.\nConclusion: Des
pite demonstrated prevention of NAFLD in animal models\, nutraceutical tra
ns-resveratrol at this dosage\, over 8 weeks\, did not demonstrate apparen
t clinical benefit in patients with well established NAFLD.
