DESCRIPTION:Paola Mejia and Vinitra Swamy\nThis workshop joint organize wi
th the EPFL AI Student association team explores the impact of AI and larg
e language models (LLMs) on online education\, from the perspective of Sch
olé\, a new EPFL AI spinoff. We will start by discussing the machine lear
ning for education space\, presenting recent research projects from the EP
FL ML for Education Lab (Prof. Tanja Käser) on topics of learner-AI inter
actions and interpretable neural networks. This will be followed by intera
ctive brainstorming sessions to envision the future of education with LLMs
\, where participants will engage in a hands-on discussion about designing
adaptive and interactive learning experiences. Finally\, we will discuss
the ideas behind Scholé\, focusing on how AI-driven systems can personali
ze curriculum\, dynamically adjust content based on user understanding\, a
nd facilitate deeper engagement through intelligent tutoring and assessmen
t mechanisms. This session will emphasize practical strategies for leverag
ing LLMs to create more effective and scalable online learning experiences
.\n\nRegistration required: HERE\n\nSpeakers\nPaola Mejia and Vinitra Swam
y are the first graduating PhDs from the EPFL ML for Education Laboratory
and cofounders of Scholé. Paola’s research is on designing\, implementi
ng and evaluating AI-based tools for education\; she has conducted multipl
e studies in vocational education and in collaboration with EdTech collide
r start-ups Lernnavi and SkillPartout. Vinitra’s PhD research is on huma
 n-centric eXplainable AI for education\, co-advised by the ML4ED and MLO l
abs. She was recently named a 2024 “Rising Star in Data Science” by St
 anford\, UChicago\, and UCSD.
