g form to register (with your EPFL email address): Here. \nThe talk wil
l be followed by a coffee session.\n\nTitle\nThe Long View of UX Research:
From usability to HAI\n\nAbstract\nStarting out as an AI researcher and s
ystem builder\, I learned early on about the value of understanding how pe
ople actually behave\, as opposed to the ways you might think they behave\
, especially when using AI systems and tools.  That was 40 years ago\, an
d ever since then\, I’ve constantly tried to learn the ways people think
about complex / intelligent systems.  The best methods are those that il
luminate actual behavior\, sometimes quantitative in nature\, sometimes qu
alitative\, sometimes purely observational. In this talk I’ll review som
e successes and failures of earlier research approaches\, what we should l
earn from these decades of practice at the boundary between human experien
ce and the use of intelligent systems\, and where AI systems will change k
nowledge practices in the future.\n\nBio\nDr. Daniel M. Russell has been w
orking in Artificial Intelligence and Human-Computer Interaction for nearl
y 40 years. He has worked at several of the top technology invention compa
