DESCRIPTION:Prof. Lourdes Basabe-Desmonts\, Microfluidics Cluster\, Resea
rch Centre Lucio Lascaray\, University of the Basque Country UPV/EHU\, Vi
 toria-Gasteiz (ESP)\nBIOENGINEERING SEMINAR\n \nAbstract:\nIn this talk I
will present advances in spatially-resolved cell analysis using CellStudi
o\, a modular and accessible platform for monitoring cellular secretions.
Combining printing and vacuum lithography\, and bead-based biosensing\, Ce
llStudio enables high-sensitivity detection of secreted proteins within st
ructured cell cultures using standard lab equipment. We demonstrate its ve
rsatility through four studies: detection of VEGF and FGF-2 in stem and ca
ncer cells\; integration of a structure-switching aptamer for real-time VE
GF sensing\; solid-phase presentation of growth factors via functionalized
beads to control stimulation\; and monitoring of IFN-γ secretion from Ju
rkat T cells under CD3/CD4 co-stimulation. Together\, these works highligh
 t CellStudio's potential as a robust\, user-friendly tool for investigatin
g cell behaviour in controlled microenvironments.\n\nBio:\n\n\n\n\nLourdes
Basabe studied chemistry at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid until 200
 2. Then\, she moved to the University of Twente in The Netherlands\, where
she completed her PhD in 2006 under the supervision of Dr. Crego Calama a
nd Prof. David Reinhoudt at the Supramolecular Chemistry Group within the
MESA+ Institute for Nanotechnology. In 2006 she joined the Biomedical Diag
nostics Institute in Dublin\, Ireland\, where in 2009 she became Team Lead
er in Microfluidics for Platelet Biology. In 2012\, she was awarded an Ike
rbasque Research Professorship and she moved to CICmicroGUNE in the Basque
Country\, Spain. In 2014\, Lourdes joined the BIOMICS research group at t
he University of the Basque Country\, led by Prof. Martinez de Pancorbo\,
where she established her own independent research team: BIOMICS-microflui
dics\, focused on the development of lab-on-a-chip technologies. In June 2
015 she co-founded the Microfluidics Cluster UPV/EHU with Dr. Fernando Ben
ito-Lopez´s group. And in 2019 she promoted the creation of the Microflui
dics and Biomics (M&B) Cluster UPV/EHU\, Lourdes Basabe is the director of
the M&B Cluster UPV/EHU which is finacially supported by the Basque Gover
nment.\nLourdes has a multidisciplinary scientific background marked by a
high international mobility. In 2010 Lourdes she was awarded with the UK a
nd Ireland L'Oreal UNESCO for Women in Science Fellowship. The research of
Lourdes Basabe-Desmonts is published in peer reviewed publications at hig
h impact international journals (ACS Nano\, JACS\, Advanced Materials\, An
gewandte Chemie International Edition\, Lab on a Chip\, Langmuir\, Chemica
l Society Reviews\, etc). She is also inventor of several patents.\n\n\n\n
