DESCRIPTION:Aim:  The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society\, Inc. (LLS) is a natio
nal voluntary health agency dedicated to the conquest of hematologic malig
nancies and relevant premalignant conditions.   The Discovery Grant Prog
ram is a research award program designed to encourage basic research\, tec
hnological innovation\, and informatics pipeline development.\n\nExamples
of projects of potential interest include:\n\n	cellular activities that un
derlie the behavior and vulnerabilities of blood cancer cells including ph
enomena or processes such as clonal evolution\, autophagy\, unique metabol
 ic vulnerabilities\, inflammation/inflammasomes\, DNA damage responses\, o
rganellar changes\, and poorly understood cellular regulatory mechanisms\n
resistance mechanisms including immune evasion\, resistant clone evolutio
n\, and cellular changes underlying development of resistance to chemother
apies\n	novel biomarkers or techniques to detect and monitor blood cancer
development and progression\n	blood cancer cell interactions with the micr
oenvironment and with the immune system\, including exploration of novel i
 mmune synapses\n\n\nFunding:       $750\,000\n\nDuration:      3
years\n\nEligibility:    The program welcomes applications from US citi
zens and non-US citizens\, as well as applicants who are performing resear

quivalent degree. Applicants must be independent investigators affiliated
with a non-profit institution at the time funding commences and for the du
ration of the award. Further\, they must be established investigators\, de

the time of the Letter of Intent.\n\nHow to Apply: The 2-stage applicatio
n process begins with a Letter of Intent\, to be submitted on the LLS Rese
arch Portal. LOIs should provide brief descriptions of how the goals and/o
r approaches are novel and innovative\, and what impact the research may h
ave on blood cancer. All LOIs will be reviewed\, and those judged to be th
e most promising\, competitive\, and responsive to the goals of the progra
m will be invited to submit a full application.  At the full application
stage\, an Institutional signature is required\; please contact the Resear
ch Office for this step. Applicants will be notified of the final outcomes
