DESCRIPTION:The Swiss AI Initiative aims to build capacities for trustwort
 hy large-scale AI systems\, leveraging Switzerland’s top AI research ins
 titutions\, a world-class GPU supercomputing infrastructure\, and a commit
 ment to open science.\n\nThe initiative focuses on developing foundation m
 odels and advancing responsible\, efficient\, and socially aligned AI tech
 nologies with significant impact for the Swiss and global community.\nThro
 ugh targeted funding\, the Swiss AI Initiative enables cutting-edge resear
 ch and the development of open science outputs in key areas of foundation 
 model development\, as well as high-impact application domains addressing 
 critical societal challenges.\n\nTo accelerate progress the Swiss AI Initi
 ative offers significant project funding and access to GPU compute resourc
 es through large project grants.\n\nThe second call for proposals is now o
 pen.\n\nWho can apply:\n \n\n	Applicants that are eligible to apply for f
 unding must have an affiliation with an ETH Domain institution (EPFL\, ETH
 Z\, PSI\, WSL\, Empa\, Eawag) and be employed in a permanent or Professor 
 tenure-track capacity.\n	Cross-institutional collaborations are strongly e
 ncouraged: computational resources can be accessed by co-applicants from t
 he ETH Domain institutions and from other academic institutions (in Switze
 rland and abroad).\n	Proposals may include additional partners (not reques
 ting nor accessing any resources)\, such as administrations\, NGOs\, SMEs\
 , or Startups.\n\n\nThe funding/support covers:\n \n\n	Access to the CSCS
  Alps supercomputing infrastructure. (The compute amount requested can exc
 eed 500k computer hours\, though smaller amounts are also possible.)\n	Fun
 ding for personnel and research costs (CHF 2M total available\, max CHF 1M
  per project)\n	Dedicated engineering support from the Swiss AI Initiative
  team (48 FTE-months total across all projects).\n\n\nDuration:\n \n\n	La
 rge project grants are allocated for a period of one year.\n\n\nDeadline:\
 n\nA short Declaration of Intent must be submitted by 25 August 2025 and t
 he deadline for the full proposals is 8 September 2025 (17:00 CEST)\nAppli
 cations need to be submitted via the online submission platform.\n\nFurthe
