DESCRIPTION:Prof. Barbara Solenthaler\, ETH Zurich\n<< Registration below
 >>\n\nAbstract: In computer graphics\, the creation of digital humans has
been a long-standing pursuit\, and today\, they are rapidly becoming part
of everyday life. While significant progress has been made in achieving p
hotorealistic representations of human faces\, applying these advancements
to healthcare presents substantial challenges. Clinical applications requ
ire highly personalized\, anatomically detailed 3D models\, often derived
from incomplete\, uncontrolled\, and multimodal input data. Additionally\,
these solutions must be accessible to non-expert users and function effic
iently with limited computational resources. This raises a crucial questio
n: How can we bridge the gap between advancements in digital human represe
ntation and the requirements of healthcare? In this presentation\, I will
focus on three areas where we are exploring this intersection: (1) face an
d head modeling for infants\, (2) automated plate computation for patients
with cleft conditions\, and (3) simulation of treatment outcomes\, such a
s orthodontics and orthognathics. I will discuss the unique challenges in
these domains and provide an overview of our work on 3D digital patient tw
ins\, highlighting the potential of these technologies in translational he
althcare settings.\n\nBio: Barbara Solenthaler is a Titular Professor at
the Computer Graphics Lab\, Department of Computer Science\, ETH Zurich. S
he received her PhD in Computer Science from the University of Zurich and
was a Hans Fischer Fellow at the Institute for Advanced Study\, Technical
University of Munich. Her research focuses on animation and simulation\, w
ith a particular emphasis on the intersection of computer graphics and hea
lthcare\, where her team develops technologies for 3D digital patient twin
 s. She is also committed to translating scientific advances for societal b
enefit and contributes actively to the international computer graphics com
munity through editorial and organizational service.\n\nThe seminar is fol
lowed by an aperitif. \n\nRegistration appreciated\nLook at our other eve
