 la López (ALICE-EPFL)\nWednesday\, October 15\n16:00\nPavillon Sicli\nRo
ute des Acacias 45\, Geneva\n\nDuration\n1h30\nFree\, registration require
d\nInscription\n\n(Re)Drawing the Urban Ground workshop is conceived as a
space for exchange and sharing of experiences between professionals and re
searchers from EPFL. By (re)drawing Geneva’s soils\, we will discuss c
ontemporary methodologies of representation\, characterization\, and desig
n of shared\, productive\, and inhabited natural spaces capable of addres
sing today’s environmental and social challenges.\n\nOver the past decad
es\, our understanding of soil has undergone a profound transformation. Ho
wever\, the lack of social representations for these soils and their worki
ngs means that what goes on below the ground surface of our cities often g
oes unnoticed in processes of design.\n\nWhat lies beneath our feet? Does
the soil have a thickness? Does it have a beginning and an end? Can we mov
e from the thin line dividing air and earth of so many representations and
into an active\, social\, political\, and ecological thickness filled wit
h agency and socio-ecological interactions? How can we make that thickness
visible and active within our co-design strategies? Is it indeed relevant
to make it visible\, or are there other ways of making the soils accessib
le for the co-design of our cities?\n\nJoin Ben Gitaï (HRC-EPFL)\, Luc
ía Jalón\, and Alejandro Varela López (ALICE-EPFL).
