DESCRIPTION:The past decade has seen an exponential increase in the data s
 tored in distributed locations in various forms including corporate & pers
 onal data\, multimedia (videos\, photos) and also me- dical data in reposi
 tories. The grand challenge is to store\, process and transfer this massiv
 e (and growing) amount of data\, efficiently and securely over heterogeneo
 us communication networks. This leads to interesting connections between i
 nformation theory and areas such as machine learning\, privacy & cryptogra
 phy and bio-informatics.\nThe focus of this workshop is in exploring such 
 connections.
