 ay\, 17 November 2025\; 18:30 \nArchizoom\, EPFL \n\nThe fact is that so
metimes the most nebulous forms can carry the greatest significance\, and
that intersections are at once chaotic and ordained.\n\nHolding signifies
an interim occupation. It suggests that which is potential\, a parenthesis
of possibility — to be put “on hold”\, to land on a ‘holding page
’\, perhaps to have ‘holdings’ in terms of assets\, to be liquefied
on command. Yet to be held is the thing we want most: in safety\, out of h
arm's way — even to be held in high regard. In this conversation — inv
oking whisper networks\, itinerant initiatives and unaffiliated alliances
 — we will talk about holding space as an emergent practice\, in the gaps
left by institutions and their metrics of value.\n \nShumi Bose is an ed
ucator\, curator and editor in the field of architecture and architectural
history. She is Senior Lecturer in Architecture at UAL Central Saint Mart
ins in London\, and also teaches at the Royal College of Art\, Syracuse Un
iversity and the Technische Universität Wien. She has curated widely\, in
cluding at the Venice Biennale\, the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Ro

oldspace\, a platform for extracurricular discussions in architectural edu
cation\, and currently serves as trustee for the Architecture Foundation.\
n\nThe South X Initiative is a new platform at EPFL dedicated to bringin
g together voices from across the “Global South” to collectively thin
k about our built environment. Here\, “South” refers to geographies\,
material practices\, climates\, ecologies\, and cultures that have navigat
ed socio-political and ecological change\, and in doing so\, have produced
distinct spatial forms and cultural traditions. Through semester-themed
guest lectures\, reading discussions\, and workshops\, the initiative offe
rs a platform for exploring alternative methods\, processes\, and narrativ
 es of spatial praxes.
