 FL\nRecent advances in the field of high-temperature cuprate superconducti
 vity will be presented in this talk. One subject will be competition of ch
 arge order with superconductivity in the archetypical cuprate superconduct
 or YBa2Cu3O7.  Three X-ray scattering experiments have recently emerged o
 n this topic [1-3]. A second topic is related to the nature of the metalli
 c normal state of overdoped cuprates. A study showing how the Fermi liquid
  quasiparticles are breaking down as a function of momentum will be presen
