DESCRIPTION:Prof. Serena Cattari \nAbstract\nAlthough damage levels consi
stent with the EMS-98 scale represent a concept that is well established a
nd intuitive in engineering practice\, ensuring a coherent correspondence
across the different approaches used to derive fragility curves (i.e.\, em
pirical\, mechanical-analytical\, and mechanical-numerical) is far from st
raightforward. This is due to the variety of variables that may be adopted
(e.g.\, damage data from post-earthquake survey forms\, interstorey- drif
t\, roof drift\, damage variables from constitutive laws\, etc.) as well a
s the different conversion criteria employed. Such variability can lead to
significant impacts on the results. In the seminar\, this issue is addres
sed\, with particular insights provided from the use of nonlinear dynamic
analyses (NLDA) for masonry structures.  Specifically\, a multi-scale app
roach is proposed to fully exploit the large amount of data generated by N
LDA. The method is inherently self-consistent and do not require the suppo
rt of nonlinear static analyses for interpretation\, as is commonly done i
n the literature.\n\nShort bio\nSerena Cattari is Full Professor of Struct
ural Engineering at the Department of Civil\, Chemical and Environmental E
ngineering. Her main research area deal with Earthquake Engineering\, Maso
nry Structures and Risk studies. SC is the Coordinator of the PhD Program
in Security\, Risk and Vulnerability and to date supervised 18 PhD Student
 s. SC is Associate Editor of Earthquake Spectra. She is co-author of more
than 230 scientific contributions\, of which 96 papers on international jo
urnals indexed in SCOPUS.  She served as local responsible of the researc
h unit of UniGe in several national projects funded by MUR (e.g. PRIN 2017
DETECT-AGING - "Degradation Effects on sTructural safEty of Cultural heri
TAGe constructions through simulation and health monitoring"\; PNRR RAISE)
and ReLUIS-DPC programs (e.g. WP4 MARS - "Seismic Risk Maps and damage sc
 enario"\; WP10 - "URM nonlinear modelling - Benchmark Project").\n\nSandwi
ches are offered at the end of the seminar.
