  and CERN who will give the talk "Superposing coherent states for fun &

 roup leaders\, and PIs are welcome to join us.\n\nTITLE: "Superposing coh
 erent states for fun & profit"\n\nABSTRACT: \nCoherent states convenientl
 y represent the classically meaningful wavelike states of light\, as oppos
 ed to the corpuscular number states\, but superposing coherent states is m
 ind-bogglingly unclassical\, including as examples "cat states"\, "comb st
 ates" and "compass states". I present a history of superposing coherent st
 ates\, especially for oscillators (including electromagnetic field states)
  and for spin\, and extend to entangled coherent states. I then show that 
 superposed coherent states are a viable path for photonic quantum computin
 g and for reaching towards the ultimate limits of sensing. Finally\, I dis
 cuss our experimental realisations (at University of New South Wales) of s
 uperposed coherent states in a spin-7/2 Antimony nucleus in a silicon subs
 trate.\n\nBIO: \nBarry Sanders holds two Diplomas\, a PhD\, and a DSc fro
 m Imperial College London and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada\,
  Optica\, the American Physical Society\, and the UK Institute of Physics.
  He received the 2022 City of Calgary International Achievement Award and 
 is best known for foundational contributions to quantum optics and quantum
  information science. His research focuses on quantum computing and quantu
 m sensing and on strategy for emerging dual-use technologies.\nSanders is 
 Scientific Director of the University of Calgary’s Quantum City\, a Seni
 or Fellow at the Canadian Centre for International Governance and Innovati
 on\, and a Visiting Scientist at CERN. Before returning to Calgary in 2003
 \, he served as Head of Physics at Macquarie University in Sydney and held
  distinguished visiting research appointments internationally. He is an ad
 visor for ventures and investors\, CERN’s Open Quantum Institute\, and t
 he XPRIZE for applied quantum computing and he co-leads the Canada–Franc
 e Quantum International Research Network\, serves on four editorial boards
 \, and has trained over one hundred graduate students and postdoctoral res
 earchers.
