DESCRIPTION:Dr. Stefano Mischler\, EPFL - Tribology and Interface Chemist
ry lab (TIC)\nBio: Stefano Mischler obtained the diploma in materials sci
ence in 1983 at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology ETHZ in Zurich.
He accomplished his PhD thesis in the field of surface analysis and corros
ion at the Materials department of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technolo
gy EPFL in Lausanne in 1988.\nIn the years 1989-1990 he held a postdoctora
l position at the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Establishment in Harwell (O
xfordshire) where he developed novel quantification procedures for Auger E
lectron Spectroscopy and high lateral resolution surface analytical method
s for fiber reinforced ceramics.\nIn 1991 he joined the newly created Trib
ology group at the Laboratory for Metallurgical Chemistry of the EPFL wher
e he developed research activities in the field of wear-corrosion interact
ions (tribocorrosion) and of tribological coatings. He is currently the He
ad of the Tribology and Interface Chemistry Group at EPFL\, where he is de
veloping research and training activities focused on modern aspects of tri
bology and surface science and technology. His research spans surface chem
ical effects in tribology\, biotribology and biocorrosion\, microfabricati
on processes\, new smart coatings and modelling.
