CATEGORIES:Call for proposal
DESCRIPTION:Universal Fabricators aims to fund new interdisciplinary commu
nity to develop scalable processes that use proteins to assemble inorganic
and composite materials with structures that are difficult to mass-produc
 e. The goal is to move from biological approaches to first-principles manu
facturing.\n\nARIA provides a live teaming tool here and organizes a webin
 ar on 26 February 2026 (12:30 - 13:30 GMT – register here).\n \nThe pro
gram consists of two phases\; this solicitation is for phase 1. ARIA will
fund teams to develop protein-enabled materials manufacturing platforms:\n
\n\n	TA1.1 Fibre biomineralisation: Aiming to develop a biomineralizatio
n platform to produce high-performance inorganic fibres with precise contr
 ol over geometry and uniformity\n	 \n	TA1.2 Isoporous\, defect-free metal
-protein frameworks: Aiming to program the assembly of isoporous\, crystal
line protein lattices into mechanically resilient 2D membranes for transpo
rt channels and advanced functional devices.\n	 \n	 TA1.3 Monodisperse n
anocrystal templating in anisotropic composites: Aiming to utilize enginee
red proteins to control the growth of monodisperse nanocrystals and organi
ze them into 3D composites with unique properties.\n\nFull details of what
is in and out of scope for each area can be found in the call for proposa
ls.\n\nDuration:\n\n\n	The maximum project duration for this solicitation
is 3 years\n\n\nFunding:\n\n\n	The budget depends on the technical areas\,
please refer to the call for proposals.\n\n\nEligibility: \n\n\n	Applicat
 ions from across the R&D ecosystem\, including individuals\, universities\
 , research institutions\, small\, medium and large companies\, charities a
nd public sector research organizations are welcomed.\n	Many applicants ma
y decide to apply as a consortium consisting of two or more organizations
that are proposing a cohesive proposal to work collaboratively.\n	Overseas
applicants are advised that ARIA's primary focus will be on funding those
who are based in the UK. However\, funding will be available to applicant
s outside the UK if ARIA believes the proposed project can boost the net i
mpact of a program in the UK (examples of benefit listed here\, p.22)\n\n\
nHow to Apply:\n\n\n	Applications must be submitted on ARIA’s grant plat
 form\, via the applicant’s account. You’ll find a walkthrough of the p
latform here.\n\n\nDeadline:\n\n\n	Concept paper submission deadline: 9 Ma
 rch 2026 (14:00 GMT)\n	Full proposal submission deadline: 5 May 2026 (14:0
0 BST)\n\n\nFurther information:\n\n\n	More information (call for proposal
\, applicant guidance about the program is available here\n	ARIA FAQ : Re
fer to this page here\n	Application portal can be found here\n\nFor any ot
her questions\, please contact the Research Office.
