DESCRIPTION:The Swiss AI Initiative provides funding to support the resear
 ch and development of open science artifacts in core areas of foundation m
 odel development\, as well as target application areas of critical societa
 l importance. The 3rd Call for Large Grants is now open with a submission
  deadline of 31 March 2026 (17:00 CEST).\n\nThe call is open for all propo
 sals that align with the goals of the Swiss AI initiative and require co
 nsiderable computational resources. Proposals should outline a research ag
 enda that matches several of the following criteria:\n\n	advance core AI 
 capabilities (scalability\, efficiency\, alignment\, safety\, multimodal i
 ntegration or evaluation)\n	advance research in AI fundamentals or impact 
 applications of AI\n	benefit the Swiss or European or global ecosystem and
  societal context\n	foster interdisciplinary collaboration\, and/or collab
 oration across more than one group\n	ensure ethical AI use and regulatory 
 compliance\n	promote principles of open science (including open-source\, o
 pen weights\, open data)\n	foster participation of various stakeholders\, 
 such as public administration\, SMEs\, Startups\, NGOs. \n\n\nFor the 3rd
  call\, proposals in the following topic domains are of specific intere
 st:\n\n\n	LLMs\n	Multimodality\n	AI Safety\n	AI for Education\n	AI for Sci
 ence (including biology\, chemistry\, physics\, astronomy and others)\n	AI
  for Health\n	AI for Climate & Weather modeling\n	AI for Robotics\n	Streng
 thening the interface of AI and democratic processes\, including for examp
 le media\, law and justice\, or the public administration\n\n\nHowever\, p
 roposals in other areas will also be considered.\n\nWho can apply: \n\n\n	
 Applicants must have an affiliation with an ETH Domain institution (ETH Z
 urich\, EPFL\, PSI\, WSL\, Empa or Eawag) and be employed in a permanent o
 r Professor tenure-track capacity for the whole duration of the project. C
 ross-institutional collaborations are also encouraged.\n	More detailed inf

 cation guidelines.\n\n\nFunding and duration:\n\n\n	The core purpose of th
 is initiative is the allocation of GPUh. The requested compute amount can
  exceed 500K compute hours. In addition to compute hours\, applicants can
  exceptionally request funding for personnel and research costs\, up to a 
 maximum amount of CHF 200K. \n	The project duration is one year.\n\n\nHow

 line submission platform.\n\n\nDeadline:\n\n\n	A short Declaration of Inte
 nt must be submitted by 16 March 2026 (17:00 CET) and the deadline for the
