CATEGORIES:Call for proposal
DESCRIPTION:Aim: Fields that manipulate matter (chemistry\, materials scie
nce\, biology) face a persistent gap between computational models and the
lab bench. Conventional simulation emphasizes idealized systems: perfect c
rystal structures\, static snapshots\, vacuum environments. Yet the functi
onal properties of foundational technologies (catalysts\, semiconductors\,
drugs\, batteries) are governed by precisely the features these methods c
annot capture: defects\, interfaces\, disorder\, and dynamics operating ac
ross multiple length and time scales. This RFP asks whether AI can now clo
se that gap by predicting such phenomena more accurately\, or across multi
ple length or time scales.\n\nThis RFP is for you if:\n\n	You are developi
 ng AI methods to predict non-idealities (defects\, interfaces\, disorder\,
dynamics) and/or multi-scale phenomena in technologically relevant materi
als or molecules\n	You have a specific materials or molecular system in mi
nd where conventional simulation underperforms\n\n\nFunding & Duration:
      Track 1 - Up to $100K for 6-12 months\n
                             Track 2 - Up to $500K for 12-18
 months\n\nEligibility: Schmidt sciences invites individual researchers\, r
 esearch teams\, research institutions\, and multi-institution collaboratio
 ns across universities\, national laboratories\, institutes\, and non-prof
it research organizations. They are open globally and encourage collaborat
ions across geographic boundaries. However\, the recipient of funding must
hold a 501(c)(3) designation or equivalent.\n\nHow to Apply: Requests for
proposals can be submitted via the Application Portal. You will be asked
 to provide Background information\, Team CVs\, a Project abstract\, a stat
ement on Bigger ambition\, as well as a Project narrative and Budget. Budg
ets should include overhead of 11.1% of indirect costs (or 10% of the tota
 l budget).\n\nDeadline:      30 April 2026 (11:59 AoE)\n\nFurther inf
ormation\n\n\n	More information about the program is available here\n	An F
AQ document is provided here\n	The application portal can be found here\n
For any other questions\, please contact the Research Office\n
