DESCRIPTION:Prof. Jeannette Kuo\n\nThe drive for sustainability in the fac
 e of our climate crisis has brought architecture closer to constructive ag
 endas as a means of defining a disciplinary language. While previous gener
 ations have foregrounded theoretical or geometrical pursuits as vehicles f
 or architectural experimentation\, the current era\, finding itself confro
 nted with decades of laissez-faire extraction and consumption\, has turned
  to a more direct understanding of architecture as material constructs wit
 h finite resources and specific social\, economic\, and climatic contexts.
  The intellectual and the physical have realigned to prioritize material p
 erformance and expression not only as means of addressing ecological respo
 nsibilities but also as grounds for experimentation\, putting the spotligh
 t on assemblages that we have long taken for granted. Construction isn’t
  simply the translation of ideas into physical form but is once again cons
 idered as the catalyst for a new design attitude where material compositio
 ns are exposed\, interrogated\, and celebrated.\n\n\nBIO:\nJeannette Kuo i
 s co-founding partner of KARAMUK KUO based in Zurich and Professor of Arch
 itecture and Construction at TU Munich. She received a Bachelor of Arts in
  Architecture from U.C. Berkeley\, a Master of Architecture from Harvard G
 raduate School of Design\, and a Master of Advanced Studies from ETH Zuric
 h. In 2006\, she was the recipient of the competitive Maybeck Teaching Fel
 lowship at UC Berkeley. Since then\, she has taught at MIT\, EPF Lausanne\
 , and Harvard GSD. In 2023\, she was the Cullinan Visiting Professor at Ri
 ce University. Publications include A-Typical Plan (2013) and Space of Pro
 duction (2015).\n\nEstablished in 2010 with Ünal Karamuk\, the work of KA
 RAMUK KUO focuses on the intersection of spatial concepts with constructi
 ve thinking to approach architecture from its most fundamental sources. Th
 e office works on projects of a range of scales\, from multi-family housin
 g to complex institutional projects and have been published in numerous in
 ternational journals including Archithese\, Werk\, Bau + Wohnen\, Domus\, 
 Casabella\, and Architectural Review. In 2018 they were featured in a mono
 graph by El Croquis.\n
