CATEGORIES:Call for proposal
DESCRIPTION:Aim: Through the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Pro
gram (CDMRP)\, the Department of Defense is announcing the 2026 Breast Can
cer Research Program (BCRP) Awards. Several award programs are available:\
n\n	The Breakthrough Awards supports promising research that has high pote
ntial to lead to or make breakthroughs in breast cancer. The Breakthrough
Award is structured with four different funding levels. Each level has a d
 efined research scope :\n	\n Funding Level 1: Innovative\, high-risk/hig
h-reward research that is in the earliest stages of idea development or is
an untested theory that addresses an important problem.\n Funding Level
2: Research that is already supported by substantial preliminary or publis
hed data and strongly validates clinical translation in a well-defined con
text within the breast cancer landscape.\n Funding Level 3: Advanced tran
slational studies with a high degree of project readiness.\n Funding Leve
l 4: Large-scale projects that will transform and revolutionize the clinic
al management and/or prevention of breast cancer. Human clinical trials ar
e required.\n	\n	\n	The Clinical Research Extension Award aims to extend t
he data collection\, follow-up\, and analysis of breast cancer clinical re
search studies. Proposed research may entail a deeper molecular analysis o
f clinical samples\, initiation of new correlative studies\, biomarker val
idation\, or continuing clinical follow-up of patients currently/previousl
y enrolled in an open/ongoing or completed clinical trial.\n	The Era of Ho
pe Scholar Award supports individuals early in their careers who have demo
nstrated significant potential to effect meaningful change in breast cance
 r. These individuals should be exceptionally talented scientists who have
shown that they are the “best and brightest” in their field(s)\n	The T
ransformative Breast Cancer Consortium Award is designed to support large-
scale\, multidisciplinary and multi-institutional consortia that address m
ajor challenges in breast cancer through tightly integrated and collaborat
ive research efforts. It enables up to five Principal Investigators\, incl
uding a Consortium Director\, to work within a coordinated framework where
all project components are aligned toward a shared central hypothesis. Th
e award specifically aims to foster innovative and paradigm-shifting appro
aches that go beyond the capabilities of individual laboratories\, requiri
ng strong integration across scientific\, administrative\, and logistical
aspects\, as well as the active involvement of breast cancer advocates and
cross-disciplinary expertise.\n	The Transformative Breast Cancer Consorti
um Development Award is intended to provide successful applicants the time
and resources needed to bring investigators and breast cancer advocates t
ogether to establish a consortium framework and conduct preliminary resear
ch to support application to a future\, full Transformative Breast Cancer
Consortium Award (pending availability of funds). This is a development aw
ard and is a separate mechanism from the full consortium award. Recipients
of the FY26 Transformative Breast Cancer Consortium Development Award are
expected to submit an application to compete for the full Transformative
Breast Cancer Consortium Award anticipated to be offered in a future fisca
l year(s).\n\n\nAll applications must align with at least one BCRP Overarc
hing Challenge. The FY26 BCRP Challenges are listed at the end of this ann
 ouncement.\n\nFunding:      \nBreakthrough 1: $750K - $1.25M\nBreakth
 rough 2: $1.65M - $3.35M\nBreakthrough 3: $5.6M - $7M\nBreakthrough 4: max
 . $21M\nClinical Research Extension: $7M - $8.4M\nEra of Hope: max. $4.9M\
nTransformative Breast Cancer Consortium Award: max. $35M\nTransformative
Breast Cancer Consortium Development Award: max. $140K\nNote: Cost caps ar
e total costs (direct plus indirect costs). In accordance with EPFL guid
elines\, budgets should include a 20% overhead\, and the total budget must
remain within the grant’s maximum allowable funding.\n\nDuration:
   \nBreakthrough 1: 3 years\nBreakthrough 2: 3-4 years\nBreakthrough 3:
 4 years\nBreakthrough 4: 4 years\nClinical Research Extension: 4 years\nEr
a of Hope: 4 years\nTransformative Breast Cancer Consortium Award: 4 years
\nTransformative Breast Cancer Consortium Development Award: 1 year\n\nEli
gibility: Applicants from international organizations or institutions are
eligible to apply\, and there are no citizenship restrictions. Programme-s
pecific seniority levels are further defined here.\n\nHow to Apply: Pre-ap
plications are submitted through the eBRAP platform. They should contain c
ontact information\, a letter of intent\, and a list of collaborators and
key personnel as suggested on the platform. Full applications will be made
  via a Grants.gov workspace.\n\nPre-Application Deadline:

primary prevention)\n	Identify determinants of breast cancer initiation\,
risk\, or susceptibility\n	Distinguish deadly from non-deadly breast cance
rs\n	Conquer the problems of overdiagnosis and overtreatment\n	Identify wh
at drives breast cancer growth\; determine how to stop it\n	Identify why s

and are less toxic\n	Eliminate the mortality associated with metastatic br
east cancer\n\nAlternatively\, with adequate justification\, applications
may identify and address another overarching challenge related to The Brea
st Cancer Landscape. Justification must be provided in the application.\n
