DESCRIPTION:Are you finding it difficult to come up with a truly innovativ
e idea for your next grant application? Do you ever feel stuck in an exper
iment\, in familiar ways of thinking\, even when you know there must be ne
w angles to explore?\n\nScience progress moves between two complementary m
odes: Day Science\, the rigorous testing of ideas\, and Night Science\, th
e creative process where those ideas first emerge. Indeed\, what we call t
he scientific method tells us what to do once we have a hypothesis – but
where do these hypotheses come from in the first place? François Jacob f
amously called this part the realm of ‘Night Science’.\n\nDrawing on t
he Night Science training framework developed by Profs Itai Yanai and Mart
in Lercher\, this workshop will introduce thinking tools and exercises to
help you foster exploratory thinking\, interdisciplinarity and a general a
ttitude of openness towards new ideas applied to your own research challen
ges. This course is provided by a certified Night Science trainer from the
EPFL Research Office. \n\nThis interactive workshop is designed specifi
cally for postdoctoral researchers who want to:\n\n	Generate novel\, high-
risk/high-reward ideas for grants and publications\n	Overcome conceptual o
r experimental roadblocks\n	Expand their thinking beyond conventional fram
