DESCRIPTION:Prof. Didier Queloz\, FRS\nJacksonian Professorship of Natural
  Philosophy\, Cambridge\, UK\nProfessor of Physics\, ETH-Z\, Switzerland\n
Public Lecture\n"The exoplanet revolution and life in the Universe"\n18h30
  - 19h15\n\nThe diversity and prolific number of planets discovered have r
evolutionised our conception of the nature and history of planet formation
. They have opened up the idea of the possible rarity of planetary systems
similar to our own\, but also exciting prospects for the potential to pro
be the atmospheres of planets in search of traces of life. We are living i
n a historic moment that brings us closer to exploring life in the univers
e and understanding the origins of life on Earth.\nThe talk will present a
n outlook of this landscape and will discuss the implications of these rec
ent findings. New insights about the origins of life will be presented in
the light of recent experiments about a possible origin of pre-biotic chem
ical building blocks as well as a possible long-range pathway for detectin
g Earth-like systems amenable for remote study of life.\n\nPanel Discussio
 n\n19h15 - 20h15\n\nProf. Didier Queloz\, Nobel Laureate 2019\, is directo
r of the newly founded NCCR Genesis. Its purpose is to establish an ambiti
ous and innovative collaboration across different\nfields of science in Sw
itzerland\, with the common goal of answering some of humanity’s most pr
ofound scientific questions: How did life emerge on Earth? Is the universe
\nfull of life? In the last decade these profound questions have evolved f
rom a vague\, often speculative\, debate into a practical research agenda
that has galvanised researchers from\ndifferent disciplines and research a
gencies.\n\nPanelists:\n\n	Prof. Didier Queloz - ETH Zurich\n	Prof. Johann
a Marin-Carbonne - University of Lausanne (UNIL)\n	Prof. Nicolas Winssinge
r - University of Geneva (UNIGE)\n\nModerated by Olivier Dessibourg.
