DESCRIPTION:Prof. Francesco Massi ( Department of Mechanical and Aerospa
ce Engineering\, Sapienza University of Rome)\nAbstract: Whenever contact
occurs\, part of the mechanical energy is radiated as acoustic energy\, i
nducing vibrations in the mechanical system with varying levels of intensi
ty. The resulting dynamic response arises from a complex interaction acros
s different spatial and temporal scales\, leading to a wide range of frict
ional and vibrational behaviours.\nStarting from a general overview of the
characteristic time and length scales involved in the problem\, different
frictional scenarios will be discussed\, with a particular focus on the o
nset of macroscopic stick-slip and to the interface dynamics governing the
overall contact response.\n\nBio: Francesco Massi is currently Full Prof
essor at the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering of Sapienz
a University of Rome. Between 2007 and 2012\, he held the position of Lect
urer at LaMCoS\, INSA Lyon. He has been Visiting Professor at the Tribolog
y Research Institute of Southwest Jiaotong University\, the Laboratoire de
Neurosciences Cognitives at Aix-Marseille Université\, and the LaMcube l
aboratory at Centrale Lille.\nHe is a member of the Steering Committee of
the Italian Association of Tribology and serves on the Editorial Boards of
several international journals in the field of tribology. He has coordina
ted several research projects on both fundamental and applied topics. His
research activities focus on tribology\, dynamics\, and biomechanics.
