  we describe and model spontaneous behavior\, i.e.\, activity that is not 
 explicitly driven by sensory inputs? In this talk\, I will present recent 
 approaches to model the temporal organization of self-initiated actions ac
 ross a range of model organisms. The resulting behavioral structure sugges
 ts the existence of coordinated large-scale neural dynamics\, in which bra
 in activity hops between successive\, long-lasting neural states. I will d
 iscuss methods for extracting these dynamics\, and how they can help uncov
 er the principles governing the temporal organization of both behavior and
  neural activity. \n\n\n
