DESCRIPTION:Dr. Ilia Kalinin\, Weizmann Institute of Science\n \nMembrane
insertion constrains both the sequences of transmembrane segments and the
ir placement within proteins. These constraints can conflict with the sequ
ence requirements of protein function. Combining sequence analysis with ce
llular experiments\, I investigate two challenges: inserting C-terminal se
gments and accommodating hydrophilic segments within the membrane. I will
bring together published and ongoing work to explore how insertion pathway
s shape membrane protein sequences and architecture.
