 e\nIn the presentation novel applications of the persistent TEMPO radical 
 as an environmentally benign oxidant in synthesis will be discussed. The f
 ocus lies on transition-metal-free C-C and C-X-bond formations. Along with
  nitroxides other organic oxidants such as quinones will be presented as o
 xidants in such processes. Nitroxides and quinones will be discussed as or
 ganic oxidants in biomimetic aldehyde oxidations. Oxidative esterification
 s and redox activation of Michael acceptors will be presented along with m
 echanistic studies. Finally\, TEMPONa will be introduced as a mild reducin
 g reagent for radical arylation and trifluoromethylation reactions.
