  mouse genetics to investigate the molecular and cellular mechanisms of tu
 morigenesis in cancers associated with loss of function of the RB pathway.
  Our analysis of mouse models has revealed that the retinoblastoma tumor s
 uppressor RB and its family members p107 and p130 prevent cancer initiatio
 n in specific populations of adult stem/progenitor cells in the liver\, th
 e blood\, and the lungs. We have also identified key roles for the Notch a
 nd Hedgehog signaling pathways in RB-mutant liver and lung cancers\, respe
 ctively\, thereby identifying novel therapeutic targets for the treatment 
 of cancer patients.
