 rid\, Spain\nMetallic biomaterials suffer phenomena of surface degradation
  due to the interaction of the metallic surface with the physiological med
 ium causing ion release to the  surrounding tissues. The research work ca
 rried out by the group of Degradation\, Corrosion and Durability of metall
 ic Biomaterials from CENIM (CSIC) is focused on the kinetics and mechanism
 s occurring between the metallic surface and living cells. For that\, in v
 itro corrosion behaviour of the metallic biomaterials in contact with inor
 ganic media simulating the physiological media\; with organic compounds\, 
 including amino acids and proteins\; and\, also in contact with living cel
 ls is usually analysed.  In this seminar\, the in situ interaction betwee
 n metallic biomaterials and osteoblast cell culture is studied by electroc
 hemical techniques. The interface is monitored from the initial stages of 
 adhesion\, proliferation and growth to the spreading and confluence of Sao
 s-2 osteoblast cells onto the metallic biomaterials.
