DESCRIPTION:Felix Claus\, architecte\, Amsterdam\ncinq architectes ° cinq
pays ° trois projets\, public conférences\nFor this series of lectures\
, 5 different architects from 5 different European countries were asked to
give an insight into their work practice. Each office will present 3 proj
ects in detail from the first sketch to the final construction plans. One
of the presented projects will be the office’s very first building\, whi
ch will help answer the question of how to start an architectural office.
The other two projects will demonstrate the individual offices’ differen
t signatures and the different strategies they pursue to realize architect
ural ideas in the specific local context. The lectures will illustrate an
individual practical approach to architecture and provide an overview of t
he contemporary architectural trends in Europe.Felix ClausClaus en Kaan Ar
chitecten\, Amsterdam/Rotterdam\nClaus en Kaan Architecten was founded in
Amsterdam in 1988 by Felix Claus and Kees Kaan. Unlike many of their Dutch
colleagues they always avoided purely sensational architecture\, having n
o desire to surprise at all costs\, preferring instead to pursue an ordina
riness that is both familiar and self-evident. They realized a number of h
ighly acclaimed projects of different scales\, such as the house in Haarle
mmerbuurt\, Amsterdam (1990)\, the Urban Design for IJburg Amsterdam (2001
) or the transformation of the former bank building “De   Bazel” int
o the Municipal Archives of Amsterdam (2007). They have recently won the c
ompetition for the construction of the Supreme Court of the Netherlands\,
 The Hague.
