 ld theorem of Apollonius of Perga (262-190 BC). They give rise to one of f
 irst examples of a fractal in the plane.  We discuss recent results on th
 e counting and distribution of circles in Apollonian packings. This talk s
 hould be accessible to beginning graduate students.
