DESCRIPTION:Professor Dame Julia King\nBio: Professor Julia King is Vice-C
 hancellor at Aston University – one of the UKs leading Universities. She
  graduated from the University of Cambridge with a degree in natural scien
 ces in 1972\, followed by a PhD in 1978. Her notable and diverse career ha
 s ranged from academia to holding key positions in top corporations. After
  lectureships at the University of Nottingham and the University of Cambri
 dge\, she joined Rolls Royce in 1994 where she advanced to Director of Eng
 ineering and Technology for Rolls Royce Marine Business. She became chief 
 executive of the Institute of Physics in 2002. In 2004 she was appointed D
 ean of the Faculty of Engineering at Imperial College London\, and in 2006
  took up the post as Vice Chancellor at Aston University.\nJulia King is r
 egularly called upon to advise Government on education and technology issu
 es. She is a non-executive director of the Department for Business Innovat
 ion & Skills and a member of the Committee on Climate Change.  In Novembe
 r 2010 she was appointed by the Prime Minister as the UK’s Low Carbon Bu
 siness Ambassador. Amongst many honours\, she is a Fellow of the Royal Aca
 demy of Engineering and Liveryman of the Goldsmiths Company. In 2012\, she
  was promoted to Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE) f
 or services to higher education and technology.\nErna Hamburger Distinguis
 hed Lectures Series\, presentations to be made by Prof. Gillet and Prof. S
 crivener\nThe Erna Hamburger distinguished lecture series features women i
 n science and engineering who have greatly influenced and shaped their res
 pective fields and environments and who have earned the highest respect fr
 om their peers. The EPFL-WISH (Women in Science and Humanities) Foundation
  invites such distinguished personalities to acknowledge their accomplishm
 ents and with the hope that they will inspire future generations of resear
 chers.
