  for the number of semistable Hitchin bundles using the techniques develop
 ed by Langlands and Arthur for the trace formula. Our main motivations are
 \, on the one hand the Hausel and Rodriguez-Villégas conjecture\, and on 
 the other hand to understand the nilpotent part of the Arthur-Selberg trac
 e formula.\nIn the talk I will present some results that we have obtained 
 and the method that we use.
