DESCRIPTION:Prof. Scott Armstrong\nBio: Prof. Armstrong is an author\, for
ecasting and marketing expert\, and a professor of Marketing at the Wharto
n School of the University of Pennsylvania.\nHe received his B.A. in appli
ed science (1959) and his B.S. in industrial engineering (1960) from Lehig
h University. In 1965\, he received his M.S. in industrial administration
from Carnegie-Mellon University. He received his Ph.D. in management from
the MIT Sloan School of Management in 1968.\nHe has taught in Thailand\, S
 witzerland\, Sweden\, New Zealand\, Australia\, South Africa\, Argentina\,
Japan\, and other countries.\nHe is also the co-founder of the site adver
tisingprinciples.com\, which in 2004\, won the MERLOT award for best busin
ess education site.\nWe will discuss qualitative and quantitative aspects
of the study of homogenization of Hamilton-Jacobi equations in random envi
ronments. From the probability point of view\, a special case of the resul
ts correspond to large deviation principles for diffusions in random envir
 onments.
