DESCRIPTION:Prof. Jelena Vuckovic\, Stanford University\nOptical nanocavit
 ies enable very strong emitter-field interaction as a result of the field
 localization inside of their sub-cubic wavelength volumes. Our research fo
 cuses on the interaction of one or more self-assembled InAs quantum dots w
 ith modes of      GaAs optical nanocavities or photonic molecules.
 In    addition to the study of light-matter interaction (cavity quantum
  electrodynamics)\, this platform is also interesting for implementing dev
 ices for applications ranging from quantum information processing to bioph
 otonics. The examples include ultrafast quantum gates\, nonclassical light
  sources\, and spin-photon interfaces for quantum information processing\;
  ultrafast\, low energy optical modulators and nanolasers for classical in
 formation processing\; and single cell nanophotonic probes.
