DESCRIPTION:Samuel Davoust\, ONERA\, France\nJets represent an important c
lass of turbulent flows with wide applications\, from \naircraft propulsio
n to mixing and combustion. In the first part of this experimental \nstudy
\, we use high-speed Particle Image Velocimetry to describe the organizati
on and \nthe dynamics of the largest scales of turbulence near the exit of
a high Reynolds \nnumber jet. From our observations\, we propose a scenar
io on the interaction of m=0\, \nm=1 modes with streamwise vortices. In a
second part\, we focus on the changes that \noccur when moderate swirl is
imposed\, i.e. when a rotation component is added to \nthe jet exit veloci
ty. We detail and interpret the evolutions in the jet’s mean flow\, \ntu
rbulence statistics and large scale structures.
