DESCRIPTION:Alexander Gorodnik\nWe start these lectures by introducing a r
emarkable convolution inequality for semisimple groups discovered by Kunze
and Stein. This inequality allows to prove a quantitative ergodic theorem
for actions of semisimple groups\, and in the second part of the lectures
we discuss some number-theoretic applications of this ergodic theorem. Th
is includes counting lattice points\, Diophantine approximation\, and siev
ing for almost-primes/square-free points on varieties.
