DESCRIPTION:Anozie Ebigbo\, Postdoctoral Researcher\, University of Stuttg
art\, D\nStorage security is an essential prerequisite for the storage of
carbon dioxide in the subsurface as a contribution to the reduction of ant
hropogenic greenhouse-gas emissions. This is compromised if CO2 leaks from
the storage reservoir or displaces resident brine into freshwater aquifer
s.\nThe use of numerical models to investigate some of the issues -- parti
cularly CO2 leakage -- relevant to storage security will be a central issu
e in the presentation. In addition\, an effort will be made to examine the
reliability and comparability of some numerical models currently used in
the scientific and engineering community.\nFinally\, special emphasis will
be placed on the reduction of leakage potential in the vicinity of the in
jection well with the aid of microbial biofilms.
