DESCRIPTION:Prof. Robert Skelton\, Professor Emeritus\, University of Cali
 fornia at San Diego\nLecture 1 (10:30 am – 11:30am\, May 3rd)\nDynamics
and Control of Flexible Structures\n\nUniversities often teach dynamics an
d control as separate and \nindependent subjects\, often leading to contra
dictory design criteria. \nBut structure design and control design are ext
remely interdependent \ntasks\, with no clear analytical tools to unify th
em. This talk explains \nkey elements of the challenges\, which impact our
traditional concepts of \nmodel error\, controllability\, and system desi
gn. Motivation is given for \nusing tensegrity structures as the paradigm
for controllable structures \nusing the smallest possible control energy a
nd the smallest possible \nmass. To integrate these topics one must includ
e information \narchitecture (locations and precisions of all actuators an
d sensors) in \nthe design and decision-making procedure. Algorithms to do
  this are \ngiven.\n\nLecture 2 (10:30 am – 11:30am\, May 4th) \nTensegr
ity Fractals and Optimal Complexity of Structures\n\nLecture 3 (10:30 am
 – 11:30am\, May 5th)\nTensegrity Structure Design\n\nBiography of Prof.
