DESCRIPTION:Marc Stephan (EPFL)\nOne of the first constructions of the sta
 ble homotopy category was given by Dan Kan in 1963. We call its objects co
 mbinatorial spectra after their nature. They are similar to pointed simpli
 cial sets\, but they also have simplices in negative degrees and every sim
 plex has infinitely many faces and degeneracies. We will show how to const
 ruct directly from a Gamma-space a combinatorial spectrum. Applying this c
 onstruction to the Gamma-space associated to a symmetric monoidal category
  yields a combinatorial model of its algebraic K-theory spectrum.
