DESCRIPTION:Dr.  Sharath Sriram\, RMIT University\, Melbourne\nBio: Shara
th Sriram is a Senior Research Fellow\, ARC Australian Post-Doctoral Fello
w\, and joint leader of the Functional Materials and Microsystems Research
Group at RMIT University\, Melbourne\, Australia. He is also the Deputy D
 irector of the University’s Micro Nano Research Facility\, a 1\,000 sq.m
 . state-of-the-art micro/nanofabrication capability. Dr. Sriram’s expert
ise includes the synthesis and characterization of functional thin films a
nd micro/nanostructures\, underpinned by skills in microelectronic fabrica
tion techniques and materials science. He has published over 90 peer-revie
wed publications. He is the recipient of the 2010 Gold Medal for Excellenc
e in Research from the Australian Institute of Nuclear Science and Enginee
ring\, the 2012 NMI Prize for Measurement Excellence from the National Mea
 surement Institute\, Australia\, and a 2012 Victoria Fellowship.\nThe conv
ergence of micro/nanostructuring\, functional thin films\, and organic mat
erials enables a plethora of applications. This presentation briefly outli
nes the diverse research activities and capabilities within the Functional
Materials and Microsystems Research Group at RMIT University in energy\,
sensing\, memories\, and electromagnetics. A few recent research outcomes
are highlighted covering areas of electric field controlled surface-enhanc
ed Raman scattering (SERS)\, quasi-two-dimensional materials (MoS2 and MoO
 3) for high mobility electronics\, elastomer-based pneumatic electromagnet
ic devices\, new oxide-based transparent and stretchable electronics\, and
  nanofabricated optical dielectric resonator antennas.
