DESCRIPTION:Jim De Yoreo\, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory\nBio: Jim
  De Yoreo is the Manager of Fundamental Materials Science at Pacific North
 west Laboratory.  He received his Ph.D. in Physics from Cornell Universit
 y in 1985.  Following post-doctoral work at Princeton University\, he bec
 ame a member of the technical staff at Lawrence Livermore National Laborat
 ory (LLNL) in 1989\, where he held numerous positions including Group Lead
 er for Biophysical and Interfacial Sciences\, Director of the Biosecurity 
 and Nanosciences Laboratory\, and Deputy Director of the Laboratory Scienc
 e and Technology Office.  He joined Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory
  in 20\n07 where he served as Deputy Director and Interim Director of the 
 Molecular Foundry\, as well as Deputy Director of the Center for Nanoscale
  Control of Geologic CO2.  DeYoreo is a member of the MRS\, APS\, ACS and
  the American Association for Crystal Growth\, where he sits on the Execut
 ive Committee.  He is Associate Editor in Chief for Frontiers of Material
 s Science and Chairs the Advisory Board for “Hard Soft Interfaces: From 
 Understanding to Engineering” a UK Engineering and Physical Sciences Res
 earch Council Consortium.  He has served as President of the Materials Re
 search Society (MRS)\, on the MRS Board of Directors\, and on committees f
 or the National Academy of Sciences\, the Department of Energy and Congres
 s.  De Yoreo’s research has spanned a wide range of materials-related d
 isciplines.  Most recently\, he has focused on in situ AFM and TEM invest
 igations of interactions\, assembly and crystallization in biomolecular an
 d biomineral systems.  De Yoreo has authored\, co-authored\, or edited ov
 er 175 publications and patents.  He is a recipient of the Laudise Prize 
 of the International Organization for Crystal Growth\, an R&D 100 Award\, 
 and the LLNL Science and Technology Award\, and is a Fellow of the America
 n Physical Society.\n
