DESCRIPTION:Prof. Domenico Prattichizzo\nBio: M.S. degree in Electronics E
ngineering and the Ph.D. degree in Robotics and Automation from the Univer
sity of Pisa in 1991 and 1995\, respectively. Since 2002 Associate Profess
or of Robotics at the University of Siena. Since 2009 Senior Scientific at
Istituto Italiano di Tecnoloogia\, Genova Italy. In 1994\, Visiting Scien
tist at the MIT AI Lab. Co-editor of the books "Control Problems in Roboti
cs" (2003)\, and "Multi-Point Physical Interaction with Real and Virtual O
bjects" (2005) by Springer. Guest Co-Editor of Special Issue on "Visual Se
rvoing" of Mechatronics (2012). Guest Co-Editor of Special Issue "Robotics
and Neuroscience" of the Brain Research Bulletin (2008). Co-author of the
"Grasping" chapter of "Handbook of Robotics" Springer\, 2008\, awarded wi
th two PROSE Awards presented by the American Association of Publishers. S
ince 2007 Associate Editor in Chief of the IEEE Trans. on Haptics. From 20
03 to 2007\, Associate Editor of the IEEE Trans on Robotics and IEEE Trans
. on Control Systems Technologies. From 2013 Chair of the IEEE RAS Awards
Evaluation Panel. Vice-chair for Special Issues of the IEEE Technical Comm
ittee on Haptics (2006-2010). Chair of the Italian Chapter of the IEEE RAS
(2006-2010)\, awarded with the IEEE 2009 Chapter of the Year Award. Co-ed
itor of two books by STAR\, Springer Tracks in Advanced Robotics\, Springe
 r (2003\, 2005). Research interests are in haptics\, grasping\, visual ser
voing\, mobile robotics and geometric control. Author of more than 200 pap
ers in robotics and automatic control. Participating to four EU projects:
ROBOCAST\, THE\, ACTIVE\, DALI. Coordinator of the EU ECHORD-EXPERIMENT HA
NDS.DVI. From March 2013 Coordinator of the IP collaborative project FP7-I
CT-2011-9-601165 "WEARable HAPtics for Humans and Robots" (WEARHAP). Europ
ean Commission evaluator of proposals of European Projects within the call
FP7-ICT-2013-10- ICT- Information and Communication Technologies.\nThe co
mplexity of the world around us is creating a demand for interfaces that w
ill simplify and enhance the way we interact with the environment. In this
talk we will present the scientific and technological foundations for wea
rable haptics\, a novel concept that will change the way humans will coope
rate with robots. This research stems from the need for wearability which
is a key element for natural interaction.
