DESCRIPTION:James Montaldi (Manchester)\nHamiltonian Dynamics Seminar\nAbs
tract: A choreography is a solution of the N-body problem where the N bodi
es follow each other at regular intervals around a single closed path. Sin
ce Chenciner and Montgomery's (re)discovery of the figure-8 choreography i
n 2000\, there has been considerable interest in finding new ones.  The a
pproach is usually to use variational methods on the appropriate loop spac
e and the proofs have been a combination of symmetry arguments and analysi
 s. In this talk I will describe a complete classification of all the possi
ble symmetry groups arising in this problem (there will be no analysis!).
It is joint work with my PhD student Katrina Steckles.
