DESCRIPTION:Romain BRETTE\,\nLab of Psychology and Perception\, Hearing Gr
oup ENS\, Paris\nThe integrate-and-fire model is often used in computation
al neuroscience because it is a simple\nphenomenological model\, despite g
eneral agreement that the single-compartment Hodgkin-\nHuxley model is mor
e realistic.\nHowever\, on closer examination\, it appears that the latter
model is also phenomenological\,\nbecause spikes are initiated in the axo
n initial segment\, not in the soma. In this talk I will show\nthat\, cont
rary to popular belief\, the simpler model is in fact also the more realis
 tic.
