DESCRIPTION:Dr Yosef Akhtman\, TOPO\nAbstract:\nThe Leman-Baikal project c
onstitutes an international Swiss-Russian collaborative research initiativ
e in the field of physical limnology. The three-year framework involves a
series of environmental studies on lakes Geneva and Baikal (Southern Siber
ia\, Russia) that invoke - among other methods - airborne hyperspectral im
aging of land and water surfaces from an ultralight aircraft. A unique and
novel remote sensing equipment was developed specifically for the project
by the team of the TOPO laboratory. In this talk we present the challenge
s and the achievements of the field campaign that took place on lake Baika
l during the months July and August of 2014 against the magnificent and cu
lturally charged backdrop of the Siberian landscape.Short biography:\nYose
f Akhtman received his BSc degree in Physics and Mathematics from the Hebr
ew University of Jerusalem\, Israel in 2000\, and a PhD in Electronic Engi
neering from the University of Southampton\, UK\, in 2007. He held a numbe
r of research positions spanning the subjects of information theory\, mobi
le robotics and remote sensing of environment. In 2011\, he has joined the
Geodetic Engineering Laboratory (TOPO) at EPFL\, where his current resear
ch is focused on the development of airborne hyperspectral imaging sensors
