  theory usually applies to quasi-projective varieties. In this talk\, I wi
 ll motivate the search for a kind of Hodge theory applied to functions on 
 such varieties\, started by Deligne in 1984. I will emphasize the behaviou
 r of the "twisted logarithmic de Rham complex" recently introduced by Kont
 sevich\, which is an analogue of the logarithmic de Rham complex. If time 
 permits\, I will indicate the relation with the theory of wild harmonic fl
 at or Higgs bundles introduced by T. Mochizuki.
