DESCRIPTION:Dr. Eric Serre\nUniversite Aix-Marseille\, Marseille\, F\nThe
external core plasma touching the last closed magnetic field surface (LCFS
) and the scrape-off layer governs the plasma-surface interactions and con
trols tokamaks performances. The temperature and density pedestal of the h
igh confinement regime (H-mode) builds up in this region and contributes t
o more than 1/3 of the stored energy. Furthermore\, this region couples th
e source of particles and momentum to the core plasma\, while it also coup
les the ash and energy produced in the core to the sinks in the divertor.\
nOur simulation effort concerns the turbulent transport mechanisms at the
edge that rule the interaction between the scrape-off layer and the confin
ed plasma. The presentation will show our effort to design a family of tur
bulent transport codes that solves fluid equations in versatile geometries
from 2D diffusive regimes to 3D turbulent ones. Coupled to the neutral Mo
nte-Carlo code EIRENE\, the code capabilities will be illustrated in 2D di
ffusive regimes by preliminary investigation of density regimes and heat f
luxes distribution in the WEST configuration\, which is a tungsten upgradi
ng of Tore Supra to support ITER divertor design. Finally\, the parallel K
elvin-Helmholtz like instability triggered at the core/SOL transition and
interchange turbulent flows for limited circular plasmas will be investiga
ted. Such simulations should provide a better understanding of poloidal tu
rbulence asymmetries and also to validate our codes both with respect to t
heoretical stability results and to the well-documented experimental Mistr
 al base case.
