DESCRIPTION:Pier Paolo Tamburelli \nDifficult Double is primarily a serie
 s of lectures\, which aims to offer to EPFL a portrait of the contemporary
  panorama of culturally involved practices around the world. The format\, 
 echoing the Venturian idea of architecture as a “difficult whole”\, co
 uples each time an architect’s work and his/her own main cultural refere
 nce in the architectural production of the past\, starting from the basic 
 assumption that architecture is not so much about inventions but more abou
 t intentions. The architect and his/her obsession compose a “double port
 rait”\, a “difficult double”\, which should provide a deeper compreh
 ension of both the architect’s and the double’s oeuvre. The culture of
  architecture is based on misunderstandings and tweaked stories. Bad readi
 ng\, simplification and superficial interpretation of something far away\,
  both in space and time\, has been an engine of many of the avant-gardes o
 f the recent past. The totality of these micro stories will inevitably cre
 ate an alternative history\, an accumulated set of cultural knowledge.
