DESCRIPTION:Frida Escobedo\nDifficult Double is primarily a series of lect
 ures\, which aims to offer to EPFL a portrait of the contemporary panorama
  of culturally involved practices around the world. The format\, echoing t
 he Venturian idea of architecture as a “difficult whole”\, couples eac
 h time an architect’s work and his/her own main cultural reference in th
 e architectural production of the past\, starting from the basic assumptio
 n that architecture is not so much about inventions but more about intenti
 ons. The architect and his/her obsession compose a “double portrait”\,
  a “difficult double”\, which should provide a deeper comprehension of
  both the architect’s and the double’s oeuvre. The culture of architec
 ture is based on misunderstandings and tweaked stories. Bad reading\, simp
 lification and superficial interpretation of something far away\, both in 
 space and time\, has been an engine of many of the avant-gardes of the rec
 ent past. The totality of these micro stories will inevitably create an al
 ternative history\, an accumulated set of cultural knowledge.
